Compare the pictures below. Though the angle they are taken at is slightly different, they are the same place on Mars. Although the Mars Express is about 6-8 years newer than Mars Global Surveyor, why is there such a huge difference in these pictures? This region of Mars is called Reull Vallis. The pictures came from the links shown. I think this comparison is interesting because seems to suggest NASA (or MSSS) does, in fact, doctor and filter certain images before releasing them.
