It all smells a bit fishy to me especially as the US are planning a brand new agency for dealing with terrorism too. See my previous post “America’s Secret Police?”…   What extra powers will be granted over the course of time to this new minister and his department? We have a new type of police force, an FBI styled force, for dealing with terrorism as well as the old MI5 and 6 departments for Counter-Terrorism all doing their bit, so how many more do we need to protect us from all these terrorist attacks that we keep getting or should I say from the one and only supposed terrorist attack in London on 7/7…..   Clive —————————————————————————- Call for counter-terror minister The UK needs a counter-terrorism minister, the Commons home affairs select committee chairman has said.   Source: BBC News news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/… John Denham, who used to be a home office minister, is calling for a single minister to bring together all the policing and intelligence issues. He also wants them to be involved in discussion and practical work to fight extremist ideas at a community level. Government initiatives lose political momentum when ministers are diverted to other matters, Mr Denham has said. He is particularly concerned about the Muslim Taskforce, which he believes is crucial in the fight against extremist ideas. Set up to advise the government about the causes of extremism, in the wake of the London Tube bombings last July, the taskforce proposed several initiatives, including a Mosques and Imams National Advisory Body (MINAB). But taskforce members are now critical of the way the MINAB is being set up, and one of them, the British Muslim Forum, has started its own process of consultation with its members and affiliated mosques. avast!
