DREYFUS – Special to GM Today March 1, 2007 The U.S. government actually carried out the flying of planes into the towers in New York to set up the basis for the war on terrorism and justify the invasion of Iraq. Certainly youve heard or read that conspiracy theory. Youve probably also heard that Bobby Kennedy was working with the Mafia to have Fidel Castro killed. Most of us reacted to those and other such speculations as preposterous. But are they? Would our government really do stuff like that? As time passes and so-called secret files become declassified, things are coming out that border on the shocking. Yes, the CIA has proposed assassination and even the destruction of a commercial airliner. “Operation Northwoods” – according to Peter Kross, the author of “The Encyclopedia of World War II Spies” – proposed the destruction of an American warship in Guantanamo Bay and blaming it on Castro. The agency also put forth plans to purposely sink ships carrying Cuban refugees or shoot down some American airplanes flying in international waters. President Kennedy turned down all these proposals. We now know that when the building of a Soviet nuclear missile site in Cuba became known, the need to eliminate Castro was intensified. This was particularly true after the failure of the Bay of Pigs invasion a year earlier. Bobby Kennedy apparently was obsessed with killing Castro. As we now know, it was the Bay of Pigs invasion that pushed Castro to ask for protection from Nikita Khrushchev and the Soviet Union. Why would the Soviets put their nuclear missiles in Cuba when they wouldnt do so for their communist neighbors in Europe? Because of our missiles on their border in Turkey, and not as an act of aggression as pushed by the American press. We also know now that our attorney general, Bobby Kennedy, had made a pact with the so-called Mafia for them to kill Fidel. Why would the Mafia do so? Because the Mafia had the lucrative gambling and prostitution operations in Havana taken away from them after the Castro revolution. There is really no question now that the entire operation intended to get Castro killed and his regime removed was directed straight out of the White House. I hope that bothers you as much as it bothers me. We have lost our way as a nation and it did not just begin in this century, as I once thought. It is my firm belief that America has been truly blessed with freedom and that we should set an example for the rest of the world. What kind of example are we setting out for the world to see as these kinds of facts become known? Are these the actions of the “shining city on the hill” as President Reagan once called our nation? Since our marvelous rebuilding of Europe and Japan under the Marshal Plan after World War II, we seem to have degenerated into assassination attempts, lies and proposals to kill some of our own people to set up the lie that an enemy attacked us. Unfortunately, you and I can no longer just write off those who suggest our government – and even our own president – gets involved in skullduggery. I hope my children live to see all of this turn around and return us to a nation that truly stands for freedom and justice based on TRUTH. It will take several generations before the people of the world accept our return to sanity and integrity. Fidel Castro came into power and has survived through the administration of 10 U.S. presidents. Lets let nature take its course.
