A D-cell battery powers the motor and is recharged by it continuously. by Sterling D. AllanPure Energy Systems News

Steorn CEO, Sean McCarthy explains the e-Orbo technology that is now on public display.   Commencing this morning at 7:00 am GMT at the Waterways Centre in Dublin, Ireland, Steorn is publicly demonstrating its new “e-Orbo” electromagnetic overunity, self-looped motor for the world to see.The motor sits on a clear plastic stand in the middle of a room, so that you can see that there are no wires running to or from the device.  The only wires go to and from a D-cell battery that sits next to the device and is recharged by the device, making it spin continually without ever stopping.A Steorn press release states: Orbo technology, which has been in development for six years, provides free, clean and constant energy at the point of use. It can be engineered to power anything from a phone to a fridge to a car. It is controversial because it is an “over-unity” technology, meaning that it produces more energy than it consumes without the degradation of its constituent parts. The Steorn website invites people to come view the demo in person.  Admission is free.  For those not able to travel there in person, a live stream is available from the Steorn website; and the public is allowed in to view the device in operation during the hours the centre is open.  A webcam will be live 24/7 through the duration of the demonstration, which is scheduled to run from December 15-23, 2009, then from January 5-31, 2010.According to Steorn, the motor will run for the entire duration without the battery being replaced — something that would never happen under normal circumstances, hence demonstrating that the device is somehow keeping the battery charged — the very battery that is running the device.  The only caveat on that claim is that because this is a prototype, it is prone to mechanical or other failures, and parts may need to be replaced during the demonstration.Perpetual Motion?Normally this would be called “perpetual motion,” but I don’t think of it in those terms.  The way I see it is that if this is indeed a legitimate system, then it is somehow harnessing energy from the environment — some kind of unseen electromagnetic force that is free for the taking.Scientists around the world will be scratching their heads about this demonstration by Steorn, to come up with an explanation of how this could be happening. It may in time change the physics books; but more importantly, it may change the public mindset that for too long has been closed to such possibilities, even though garage tinkerers and serious inventors have been coming up with stuff like this essentially since Nikola Tesla.Live FeedsHere is the feed from one of their live cameras: Watch live streaming video from steorn at livestream.com Here is a live view from the top: Watch live streaming video from steorncam2 at livestream.com This electromagnetic version is one of two variations of the effect discovered by Steorn in 2003.  The other variation involves just magnets, with no electrical input at all. It appears that Steorn and the engineers who have been assisting them as part of a development group, decided to first demonstrate the electromagnetic version. Sean McCarthy explains the overunity concept in front of Dublin’s Waterways Centre. Steorn brings a stature to their presentation that has gotten the world to sit up and take notice, notwithstanding their failed demonstration of three years ago.  Even though most coverage to date has been negative and highly skeptical, nevertheless, Steorn has received widespread coverage. This latest development will no doubt get the world talking.Bear in mind that even if the concept is sound, an important milestone still to be achieved, is to derive a practical configuration for implementing the concept that is cost-effective and reliable.Steorn invites inquiries into development and licensing of the technology. “What we’re offering is not just some new, cool technology.  It is a real opportunity for us as a species, and us as a society, to change everything.” — Sean McCarthy
Video
Here’s the explanatory video by Steorn, found on their home page. See also our back-up.  YouTube removed the audio because Steorn included some music that “has not been authorized by WMG” (at least to YouTube’s knowledge).  Steorn did get permission to use the music that is included with the video.
How it Works
According to the explanation video, the e-Orbo consists of two components.  The first component is a motor that looks like a traditional pulse motor in which an energy reservoir (the D-cell battery in this case) that energizes the coils to push the magnets causing rotation. The rectification circuit is basically just a diode. The second component is a generator with pick-up coils for generating electricity as the magnets pass by the electromagnets around the periphery, converting the kinetic energy from the rotation of the motor into electrical energy to feed back into the battery with a simple rectification circuit. From a systemic point of view, the motor is producing rotational energy, electrical energy, and heat as the net products.  Hence, McCarthy states that the overall production of energy is in a 3:1 ratio.  Three units of energy produced for every one unit put in. HistoryFor many years Steorn has developed technology to help combat counterfeiting and fraud in the plastic card and optical disc industries. In 2003 Steorn undertook a project to develop more efficient micro generators. Early into this project the company developed certain generator configurations that appeared to be over 100% efficient. Further investigation and development has led to the company’s all-magnet motor technology which allegedly produces free energy. (Ref.) The technology is patent pending. On July 4, 2007, Steorn ran a widely publicized demo of their free energy prototype at the Kinetica Museum in London, promised to be streamed live around the world; but it opened with the device not working, spurring much skepticism. (Ref.) On Feb. 4, 2009, they lifted the curtain once again, this time soliciting teams of engineers and commercial interests to become part of a developer group who will take a working principle and build embodiments which can then be implemented through license. (Ref.) On June 21, 2009, the Jury selected in 2006 to review the Steorn technology issued the verdict reached by the end of 2008, namely that the technology does not result in energy gain. Notwithstanding the experts’ negative conclusion, Steorn remained optimistic that they would have a production model ready by the end of 2009. (Ref.) On Sept. 27, we reported that the company plans to demonstrate their technology via live video by the end of 2009.  This demonstration in Dublin is the fulfillment of that expectation. # # # Comments Feel free to view/post comments at our Examiner.com version of this story. Not a Typical Pulse Motor On Dec. 15, 2009, CLaNZeR wrote: At first glance, to most people this may seem like a normal pulse motor. But it is not and uses Steorn’s Orbo config. That’s all I can really say on this because of the NDA; but if people join Steorns SKDB they will find out and see for themselves. I would say it is unique and [has] not been seen in other designs published over the years. * * * * Why Not Capacitor and Meters? On Dec. 15, 2009, Jim Dunn wrote: Sean – Congratulations on the New Demo. Hopefully this encourages others to come forth with their similar devices beginning the Free Energy (and O/U) Era.A quick suggestion – Why not use a small ultracap instead of a battery and show the voltage changes on a scope, and true ‘looping’?That would be much more believable, and truly show the Energy IN vs. Out ratios. You could pick a value of Capacitor like .1- 1.0F that is truly self sustaining, with little losses, whereas batteries have a relatively bad turnaround ratio (80%). You might even have a gradual increase in voltage, over time, which would be very impressive, and convincing!Otherwise this appears to be just another Bedini motor, which we have all built and played with. * * * * Other Coverage Steorn – What Constitutes “Proof” of Over Unity?
