Good article. As far as I am concerned. The Government have played a major role in this. But I have already had to endure the talking head known as James Obrien on LBC, saying how it is not our wonderful governments fault. It is the travelling publics own responsibility. Jerks like him make me sick mate. There is a word that sounds like Merchant Banker that describes Obrien and his sort. But I’ll refrain from using it mate. Here is how the miraculous transformation occurred: “The CAA said it was a “situation without precedent” and that decisions had been made based on “thorough gathering of data and analysis”. “The major barrier to resuming flight has been understanding tolerance levels of aircraft to ash,” the CAA said. “Manufacturers have now agreed increased tolerance levels in low ash density areas.” That’s a good story. It kind of begs the question, why were they not able to assess aircraft tolerance levels a week ago? Probably because there was never the slightest risk to aircraft in the first place, and I suppose they think this is a plausible sounding reason. Given the closeness of the General Election here, this is not going to do the Labour Government any favours, especially after the shambolic way getting tens of thousands of stranded Brits back home has been handled. Interestingly, the NATO exercise in the Baltic was apparently abandoned yesterday – I guess they have had the skies to themselves for nearly a week – enough to do whatever it was they didn’t want anyone to see!
