The survival of humanity depends on ridding the world permanently of nuclear weapons. The UN vote scheduled on July 7, 2017, is our last chance to achieve it. If we miss this chance, then all of life as we know it, including your children and grandchildren, will be destroyed forever. All that you have worked for and all that your ancestors worked for will go up in smoke for eternity. The world�s nuclear powers have amassed thousands of nuclear weapons, which are able to destroy life completely many times over. The United States and Russia alone have about 14,000 nuclear weapons combined; these are on hair-trigger alert and are ready to be launched at a moment�s notice. The last chance to avoid humanity’s destruction is the Nuclear-Weapon-Ban treaty as proposed by the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The treaty is proposed in the spirit of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and deliberation will take place from June 15 to July 7, 2017. The aim of the treaty’s proponents is to set up �a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading toward their total elimination.� If passed, the treaty would ban nuclear weapons worldwide, once and for all. It would also provide for policing procedures to ensure that none ever get built again. However, many of the world�s major nuclear powers are refusing to take part; they have stated that they will boycott the vote. Please don’t let these idiots destroy our world. Every time we miss an opportunity to push toward peace, we become incrementally responsible for pushing toward war. Since this is the last chance to save humanity, I hereby add my name to the list of those demanding that my government take part in the United Nations Nuclear-Weapon-Ban treaty and vote “YES TO BAN” this June – July 2017 in New York.
