Protesters plan ‘welcome’ for Bush Snr By Peter Lazenby PROTESTORS from across Yorkshire are heading for Harrogate to demonstrate at a visit to the town by former United States President George Bush Snr. Mr Bush will be addressing the Yorkshire International Business Convention at Harrogate’s Yorkshire Event Centre on Friday June 9. Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Leeds Coalition Against the War, Bradford Stop the War Coalition, and the University of Bradford Students’ Union are among organisations supporting the protest, which takes place at 2pm. Nuclear Leeds protestors will be meeting in City Square in Leeds at 12.30pm, and buses will be leaving Bradford at 1pm from the Anglican Chaplaincy/ Fairtrade Cafe, Ashgrove, opposite Bradford University. During his Presidency Mr Bush supported development of the US ‘Star Wars’ space-based nuclear defence system, which involves the US military base at Menwith Hill outside Harrogate.
