Thanks, Andrew. I heard about the DNA tests that claimed she was a negro from Africa, a slave who’d escaped or been abandoned (It makes me feel sad for her and I’m glad the villagers gave her a new home). This might account for her strange appearance to the local Abkhasians who weren’t used to seeing black people. But it doesn’t explain why she didn’t pick up the local language and speak to her new companions. Does she not have a marked grave where her body can be examined?
