The real story now is how pretty much all mainstream media in the western world have consistently regurgitated the official narratives for such events and clung to interpretations that are in many instances physically impossible. Not alone that, but have taken every available opportunity to hype the threat of Islamic fundamentalism, using whatever specious evidence that comes to hand, all the time suppressing any suggestion that what we have been told may not, in fact, be the truth. Consider some examples. In November of 2005 we hosted a conference in Cork with five of the leading experts in the world on these issues. UCC (my employer at that time) banned the conference on the grounds that MI5 might try and assassinate David Shayler on the campus. This did not merit one mention in the Cork press. Not one. At the same time both Cork newspapers rush any Al Queda news into print with bold headlines even when it simply comprises somebody posting a statement on the internet in Iraq, claiming to be Al Queda, and in one notable instance calling for nuclear scientists to join the jihad, even though the identity of the poster can never be verified, and could just as easily have been a US military asset in CENTCOM. Would it be an exaggeration to say Al Queda has been mentioned 10,000 times in the Irish media in the past twelve months? A third example is the interview conducted by Pat Kenny with Shyam Sundur of NIST on his radio show in October 2006. On review of that interview one might hypothesise that all examinations of 9/11 by RTE were valid, except those that undermine the official narrative. Why this subject is not being tackled by media and government? The reason that such subjects are not tackled by the mainstream media, in my opinion, is the simple fact that the primary objective of media corporations is not to tell the truth. You will find no reference to truthtelling in the articles or memos of any media corporation. On the other hand all corporations have as their primary objective, enshrined in corporation law, to maximize shareholder value for the owners of the capital. Ironically, failure by managers or directors to adhere to this fiduciary duty can leave them liable to the full rigors of the law. The bias is systemic and institutionalized in this manner for privately owned media corporations. Theoretically, public sector media are supposed to be free from this constraint, but as we can see in the case of RTE vis-a vis privately held Irish media, there is no negligible difference. Why this is the case I have yet to clearly identify. Of course there are many other factors at play. Many journalists are simply in fear of their careers or their lives. Dozens and dozens of individuals have been assassinated in the past five years for appearing to present a threat to the status quo, including in my opinion Hunter S Thompson. And then there are the subtler news filter effects as propounded by Chomsky and Herman in Manufacturing Consent (1994). Note that antiterrorism has now replaced anticommunism as the bogey man du jour. However, I get suspicious when the same talking heads, TV networks and oil corporations that tell us that 9/11 was pulled off by 19 crazy Arabs, expound at length about why Peak Oil is so certain and imminent. For example, Colin Campbell, the Godfather of Peak Oil, has worked for Texaco, British Petroleum, Amoco, Shenandoah Oil, Norsk Hydro and Fina. Is it not reasonable to suggest that he may be serving these interests when he speaks to Peak Oil? Michael Ruppert is possibly the leading Peak Oil exponent in the 9/11 truth community, but Im afraid his credibility has been thoroughly demolished. Peak Oil serves the interests of the establishment in a number of ways. For example, one thesis has it that the Oil shocks of the 1970s were simply the creation of the Seven Sisters Oil Corporations acting at the behest of the Bilderberger group. The net effect was to drive up the price of oil by 200% and in the process creating a massive artificial demand for dollars and thereby saving it from a collapse that would ends its role as the global reserve currency. Its not difficult to see the parallels with today. Greg Palasts book Armed Madhouse deals extensively with the oil question and the role of petrodollars. One of his arguments in a nutshell is that the US didnt go into Iraq to extract oil, it went in to stop oil extraction as Saddam was trying to sell so much of the stuff that he was lowering the per barrel price and weve all seen where that has gone in the past couple of years. And of course it is useful to an extent to use Peak Oil as a rationale for an interventionist foreign policy. Ill finish with the following quote from Armed Madhouse: Venezuela has 1.36 trillion barrels of heavy tar oil – 90% of the earth’s total. More oil than Hubbert had estimated for the whole earth.
