Anyway, the point I wanted to bring to your attention was the fact that the plane spotters observed the unmarked ‘Malaysian 777’ at Aéroport Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées en route to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on November 4, 2013. This airport is relatively near to (but just far enough away from as to be inconspicuous)Toulouse, which is regarded as the centre of the European aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus, Galileo Positioning System, the SPOT satellite system, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), Avions de Transport Regional (ATR). As I understand it, the Galileo system was developed in order that Europe would not be dependent upon US GPS systems; the US were at one stage determined to control GPS technology, giving them a ‘kill switch’ option in the event of a political/military crisis. The whole missing plane episode has certainly focused everyone’s attention upon the capabilities of satellite technology and global positioning systems.
